- Heats the outside of the pipe and inside of a fitting using a portable heating iron, then inserting the pipe into the fitting
- Used with smaller, nominal pipe sizes (typically 4 inches or less)
- Ideal for confined spaced like narrow trenches or indoor installations where large machines cannot fit
