Challenge | Opportunity

H-E-B celebrated its 119th year in business and upgraded its distribution center in San Marcos, Texas. During construction, they encountered a challenge with the fire riser system. The standard 72" x 72" riser size was insufficient for their needs due to clearance issues when stubbing up from the concrete into the riser room. They required a custom-built fire riser with an 8" diameter and extended length of 144" flanged x 72" CIPS to integrate with their fire protection system properly.

Solution

The Ames SS Fire Riser was chosen with the help of Michael Masters, FlowControlGroup account manager, and wholesaler ACT Pipe & Supply for its quality, customization, and easy installation. Fabricated to exact specifications, it eliminated mechanical connections within the slab, reducing leak points. With customizable end connections, it was tailored to fit seamlessly.

Outcome

The custom Ames SS Fire Riser significantly benefited H-E-B and the contractors working on the distribution center upgrade. The stainless steel construction ensured a longer life expectancy compared to traditional ductile iron risers. Additionally, the installation time was drastically reduced - what would typically take 180 minutes using conventional methods was completed in just 30 minutes. This resulted in an 80% reduction in installation time, translating into substantial labor cost savings. The custom riser's efficiency, reliability, and durability provided H-E-B with a dependable fire system supply, reinforcing their commitment to safety and operational excellence.
